Product-Property Guided Scale-Up of a Fluidized Bed Spray Granulation Process Using the CFD-DEM Method

In this work, a method to predict the surface structures of particles produced by fluidized bed spray layering granulation using CFD-DEM was developed. A simple state-variable/event tracking approach implemented capture indirect quantifiers progression structure-forming microprocesses. The state droplet at time impact on particle surface, as well required for drying, is correlated product properties that quantify structure morphology such roughness. workflow scale-up guided product-property predictors presented. tested demonstration case from literature, where core coated with sodium benzoate solution. experiment scaled-up factor eight pilot-scale developed method. Varying number nozzles in use affected roughness due differing drying conditions encountered. On basis, ability tracked-quantity relationship between and geometric feature or process demonstrated.
